HTC One (M8) gallery and more details!

The HTC One (M8) launch event is over, yet we still are very excited! It seems that HTC did it again – right from this place I’m telling you – this will be the best smartphone of the 2014!

Here are some official pictures:

As you can see HTC One (M8) comes in a 3 colours - Gunmetal Grey, Amber Gold and Glacial Silver. Personally I love the first one - Gunmetal Grey. It looks gorgeous!

Here are the highlights that stand out the most:
  • A more refined design: it's 90% metal now, with the metal wrapping up the side (the HTC One was 70% metal). The gunmetal grey is simply gorgeous and has this great texture to it. The entire phone is more solidly constructed.
  • Bigger Battery: with a 2600 mAH battery, it lasts longer.
  • Bigger Storage: Yes, it's true, there is a microSD slot in there, and it supports up to 128 GB of storage. How's that for mind-blowing?
  • Bigger Screen: 5 inches is a nice size; not so huge like the One Max, but noticeably bigger than the 4.7 inch screen on the HTC One.
  • Better BoomSound: The audio quality from the dual-front facing speakers on the HTC One was great...but you wouldn't believe how much better the new HTC One (M8) sounds! Richer, fuller audio with a wider sound. It's 25% louder, yes, but the audio quality is dramatically better.
  • A Better Camera Experience: It's a 4 megapixel UltraPixel sensor, but we switched to a new provider for the sensor, completely addressed the pink tint issue, added a second sensor to get depth/spatial information (which allows for some great camera effects). Image quality is simply better.
And here is the official full specification:
  • COLORS: Gunmetal Gray, Glacial Silver, Amber Gold
  • DISPLAY: 5.0 inch, Full HD 1080p Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3
  • CPU SPEED: Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor / 2.5GHz quad-core CPU in Asia/China / 2.3GHz quad-core CPU in US/EMEA
  • PLATFORM ANDROID: Android™ 4.4 with HTC Sense 6, HTC BlinkFeed
  • SIM CARD TYPE: nanoSIM
  • CAMERA: Duo camera. Primary Camera: HTC UltraPixel camera , BSI sensor
  • 2.0 um, sensor size 1/3”, ƒ/2.0, 28mm lens. HTC ImageChip 2. 1080p Full HD video recording with HDR video. Secondary camera: capture depth information. Front Camera: 5MP, ƒ/2.0, BSI sensor, wide angle lens with HDR capability, 1080p Full HD video recording Gallery with UFocus, Dimension Plus, Seasons, Foregrounder, Image match.
  • MEMORY: Total storage: 16GB/32GB, available capacity varies. Expansion card slot supports microSD™ memory card for up to 128GB additional storage
  • RAM: 2 GB DDR3

The Beating Heart of the All New HTC One (M8): Qualcomm's Snapdragon 801

At the centre of any HTC is the processor. A combination of CPU (general processing) and GPU (graphics processing), the modern processor is a marvel of miniaturization and integrated technology. Many of you spec-loving types have been drooling over the forthcoming Snapdragon 805 that was announced at CES in January. This is a powerful processor, but it's also one that isn't ready yet in mass quantities - that's the reason why it's not in the HTC One (M8). Qualcomm is great at pre-announcing their products to create consumer demand, which then helps them with orders from the companies that buy their products (such as HTC).

The Snapdragon 801, the processor in the new HTC One (M8), isn't just a warmed-over Snapdragon 800. It's has some significant improvements over its predecessor, including:

  • 45% improvement in camera sensor performance (which drives the ultra-fast focusing technology)
  • 28% faster graphics performance from the Adreno 330 GPU
  • 14% faster CPU performance
  • 18% faster digital signal processing (DSP)
  • 17% faster memory performance
  • Faster image post-processing for editing
  • eMMC 5.0 memory interface support
What does all this technical talk amount to? The HTC One (M8) with the Snapdragon 801 processor will be the fastest, most powerful phone HTC has ever created. Having used one for a couple of months now, I can genuinely say it's the fastest HTC ever. It just screams.
Anandtech has a great article covering this in even greater detail; for reference, the HTC One (M8) coming out in Asia will have the MSM8974AC clocked at 2.5 Ghz, while the rest of the world will have the MSM8974AB clocked at 2.3 Ghz. Other than the 200 mHZ difference in clock speeds, the chips are otherwise identical.

Android Revolution Needs Your Help! Setting up new servers

Android Revolution HD for various devices has been downloaded more than 4 million times during last 3 years (from official sources). With the average of 1GB  size per ROM, that means almost 4000 terabytes of data we transferred to our users in 3 years, not to count other files (mods, kernels, fixes etc.). With such amount of data this places Android Revolution HD among the most popular custom ROMs.

This also brought us some problems – most servers we used to date can’t manage such traffic. We've also lost our androidrevolution.nldomain lately, that’s why you can’t download anything at the moment (we hope to fix that as soon as possible).

Now we need to set up some new servers and bring back download links to life. For that we’ll need some extra funds. If you’d like to contribute, please use the PayPal donation link below. We want to ensure that every time you click on the download link you’ll be able to get what you want within minutes, without waiting for hours until download is complete! Any amount counts and helps!

With that being said, I can't thank enough to Lizard, Android Revolution member since the beginning who's taking technical care of the servers. You won't be able to download anything without him!
